James P. Aylward

Mr. Aylward is Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Sy.Med Development, Inc. He joined Sy.Med in February of 1997 as Vice President, Sales and Marketing and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in May of 1997. Under his leadership, Sy.Med has won numerous business achievement awards, including the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America three years in a row. Additionally, under his leadership, Sy.Med has become an MGMA AdminiServe® Partner and a Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner. Mr. Aylward has received numerous personal awards including the 2012 Health Care Hero Award and the 2012 Business Leader Top 50 Entrepreneurs. Prior to joining Sy.Med, he held sales and marketing management positions with three Tennessee HMOs: Complete Health, HealthWise of America and American Medical Security. He was an integral part of the senior management startup team at each of these companies, and was responsible for growing the health plan from no initial membership to hundreds of thousands of members in two years. United HealthCare acquired both Complete Health and HealthWise of America in 1994 and 1996 respectively. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, Mr. Aylward began his business career at Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation. Over a seven year period, he held various positions, including Territory Manager where he was responsible for all Caterpillar equipment financing and leasing sales in Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Fred C. Goad, Jr.

Since August 2001, he has been a member in Voyent Partners, L.L.C. (“Voyent”), a private investment company. Mr. Goad served as co-chief executive officer of the transaction services division of WebMD Corporation (“WebMD”), a provider of healthcare transaction, information and technology services, from June 2000 through March 2001. From March 1999 through May 2000, Mr. Goad served as senior advisor to the office of the president of the transaction services division of Quintiles Transnational Corporation (“Quintiles”), a contract research company providing a wide range of clinical research services for biotech and pharmaceutical clients. Mr. Goad served as co-chief executive officer and chairman of Envoy from June 1996 until Envoy was acquired by Quintiles in March 1999. From 1985 to June 1996, Mr. Goad served as president and chief executive officer of Envoy Corporation (“Envoy”), a provider of electronic transaction processing services for the healthcare industry. Within the past five years, Mr. Goad has served on the board of directors of Emageon Inc., a provider of information technology systems for hospitals, healthcare networks and imaging facilities, until its sale in 2008, Performance Food Group Company, a foodservice distributor, and on the boards of directors of several private companies. Mr. Goad holds a B.S. in business from the University of Virginia.

Frank E. Gordon

Managing Partner

Mr. Gordon is currently managing partner for Crofton Capital, L.P. in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to joining Crofton Capital, he was Vice President of Development and Managed Care of MediSphere Health Partners, a woman's healthcare company based in Nashville, Tennessee. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas in Austin and a Masters in Business Administration Degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta. Prior to joining MediSphere, Mr. Gordon was Director of Provider Relations at HealthWise of America and served in this capacity through the acquisition of HealthWise by United HealthCare. He has also held various marketing and development positions with Hospital Corporation of America, Surgical Care Affiliates and Geriatric Medical Care. Gordon currently serves on the Board of Directors of HealthStream, Inc.

Gerard (Gerry) M. Hayden, Jr.

Gerard ("Gerry") M. Hayden, Jr. joined HealthStream as senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) in mid-May 2008 after resigning from HealthStream's Board of Directors, where he had been a Member since 2006. Having led healthcare technology companies, he brings broad industry experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, and accounting to HealthStream's executive team. Most recently serving as chief financial officer for MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, Mr. Hayden has additional experience serving as chief financial officer for such companies as Private Business, Inc., Covation, Meridian Occupational Healthcare Associates, Inc., ENVOY (now part of WebMD), and Allied Clinical Laboratories, Inc. In his new role at HealthStream, Mr. Hayden will assume leadership for accounting and financial operations. Mr. Hayden holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University.

Thomas H. Stearns, FACMPE

Vice President of Medical Practice Services
State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company

Mr. Stearns has had over 30 years experience as a Medical Management Executive. He is currently Vice President of Medical Practice Services with State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Corporation in Brentwood, Tennessee. He is a current member of the Board of Directors, a Fellow, and a Past Chairman of the Examinations Committee for the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE). Mr. Stearns is also very active with the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and has been Finance/Audit Chairman, Member of Board of Directors and Past President of the Southern Section. During the 2010 MGMA Annual Conference, Mr. Stearns received the Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award which is the highest form of recognition and is awarded to an individual who has made nationally recognized contributions to health care administration and for advancing the field of medical practice management. He has also held Secretary/Treasurer and Board of Director positions with the Center for Research in Ambulatory Health Care Administration (CRAHCA) and was Past President for the Tennessee Medical Management Association (TMGMA).
